Megan Romano
Northeast High had an outstanding performance from Megan Romano (12) in the pool last week. Megan started off on Wednesday with a couple of wins in the 50 free and the 100 free against Countryside. Then on Saturday, in the FSPA Invitational in Orlando, she upped her level in Orlando winning the 100 back with her best time of the year in 54.53 (.12 off the state record) and the 100 free with again her best time of the year in 49.20. She also led off the two relays with strong times which helped Northeast qualify for the consolation finals. Megan is finally getting back to health from mono, which slowed her training just before the Olympic trials in June. She is a top female swimmer in the state, if not the top one. Coach Bill Burrows, Northeast High.
Rashad Lewis
St. Petersburg High School Football would like to nominate Rashad Lewis for player of the week.
Rashad ran the ball 18 times for 112 yards Friday night in the Green Devils victory over Gibbs. Rashad, only a sophomore was asked to replace the starting running back who was injured. He replaced him in a big way, carrying the Devils in the second half with 93 of his 112 total yards.
Brian Harris
On behalf of Dixie M. Hollins High School:
BRIAN HARRIS achieved a personal record of time of 17:10 for a 5K. He is also a dual enrolled student for the second year in a row. He is a very dedicated runner and student.
I am nominating Brian Harris for Cross Country. I know that he is a home schooled student but I doubt that makes a difference. He is the hardest individual worker day in and day out. He trains with the team and then continues to train with other coaches or by himself on a regular basis. He has just set a P.R. at 17:10 and is consistently coming in at 2nd or 3rd overall.
