9/4/06 Week 2 Winner: Taylor Wilson Countryside High School
Taylor is on the Girls Varsity Volleyball Team. She was nominated by Coach Kaylyn Bayly. Taylor has led the Countryside Cougars volleyball team to a 3-0 start. She has 20 kills, 5 aces and 18 digs. She is the team captain and sets a positive example both on and off the court. She is a phenomenal student and athlete with a 4.7 weighted GPA. Way to go Taylor!

9/14/06 Week 3 Winner: Bryce Williams Osceola High School
Congratulations to Bryce Williams from Osceola High School. He is a Varsity Football Player. In a 28-7 victory over Pinellas Park, Bryce rushed for 133 yards on 17 carries. Also, he scored three touchdowns. On defense, Bryce led the team with 11 solo tackles. Bryce was nominated by Coach Daniel Tierney. Way to go Bryce!

9/22/06 Week 4 Winner: Danielle Jones Seminole High School
Congratulations to Danielle Jones from Seminole High School. Danielle is a diver on the SHS Varsity Swim Team. She is undefeated in four dual meets so far during the 2006 swim season. Her dive total vs. PHU on 8/23/06 (271.90 points) was the third best in Seminole history. Danielle was nominated by Coach Tom Haight. Way to go Danielle!

9/28/06 Week 5 Winner: Megan Romano Northeast
Way to go Megan! Megan swam on 4 relays at the Total Team Challenge, two relays finished 1st, one 2nd and one 3rd out of 19 teams. She is also undefeated in the 4 duel meets this season. Check out Megan's awesome story above in the "Local Sports News" section.

10/5/06 Week 6 Winner: Kristin Fisher Clearwater High
In the game against Eastlake, Kristin recorded 17 kills, 13 blocks and 7 aces. She was nominated by Coach Tracy Sedely. Congratulations Kristin! Keep up the great work! 10/11/06 Week 7 Winner: Russell Snyder Northeast
Russell is the Senior Captain of the Swim Team & Cross Country Team. He was nominated by Coach Bill Burrows. He led the Vikings with 2 individual wins at the City meet in the 200 Individual Medley and the 100 Breaststroke, as well as swimming on two championship relay teams, which helped to win the team championship over 9 other teams! He also ran and led the Cross Country team to a victory at the Pirate Inv. on Tuesday, then ran again and finished well at the Race of Champions in Tampa, and led his team to a 3rd place finish in their class!

10/18/06 Week 8 Winner: Kailand Cosgrove Tarpon Springs High
Kailand is on the Varsity Cross Country & Swimming teams at Tarpon Springs High. She was nominated by Coach Jim Long. Her time of 19:06 earns her 2nd place on the Pinellas County Honor Roll. She has won 1st place in her last four races. In swimming, Kailand has placed 1st in both the 200 and 500 free in each of their five dual meets, and also participates in the 400 relay. She is a major reason why the Spongers are undefeated in dual meet competition. Not too many student-athletes are able to maintain this level of competition and still maintain nearly a 4.0 GPA. 10/26/06 Week 9 Winner: Garrett Mackey St. Petersburg
Garret Mackey ran away with the City Championship. He is two seconds away from the school record at 16:22 for 5K and ranked number one in the county with some stiff competition. Way to go, Garrett!

11/1/06 Week 10 Winner: Jordan Weber Northeast High
Jordan is a senior at Northeast High. She competed in the District Swim meet with 2 broken toes, one on each foot, and won for the first time in her 4 year career; scoring an All-American qualifying score. She also went on to beat 17 other girls to win the Region 3 2A Diving competition in Sarasota and will be competing at State this week. Way to go Jordan!

11/9/06 Week 11 Winner: Allie Cooper Boca Ciega High
Allie completed a double hat trick in soccer! The first game was Boca Ciega Vs. Gibbs High at the Northeast High Preseason Tourney. That is six goals. Then in game two of our preseason tournament, she played the sweeper position and helped tremendously in completing a shutout against the talented Northeast High School Varsity Team! She is the consummate team player and her coach and team members are proud of her. Allie was nominated by Coach Ron Henkel. Way to go Allie!

11/17/06 Week 12 Winner: Andrew Blazuk Seminole High
Andrew is a member of the Seminole High School Varsity Swim team. He finished the season as State Champion in the 100 Backstroke at the 2A State Championship in Ft. Lauderdale. He also placed 4th in the 100 Frestyle and swam on 2 relays that placed in the finals and helped the Warhawks tie for 4th overall at the State meet. Congrats Andrew!

Katie won the 100 Fly in the 3A State Championship meet with a :55.36, just off the State record. She recently signed with Arkansas for a swim scholarship. Great job Katie!

12/11/06 Week 14 Winner: Amanda Tucker Seminole
Playing in 4 girls varsity soccer games in the past week and a half, Seminole HS goalkeeper Amanda Tucker (and the SHS team) posted a shut-out in each of these 4 PCC South games. SHS won 3-0 v. Boca Ciega, 1-0 v. rival St. Petersburg HS, 8-0 v. Gibbs, and a 0-0 result v. Lakewood. The SHS team also beat Dixie Hollins 8-0 with back-up goalkeeper Becky Abrahamson in goal. Amanda was named Seminole High School 'Beef O'Brady's Athlete of the Week' by coach Steve Kuplicki. Amanda recently committed to play soccer for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the Fall '07. Congratulations Amanda!

Kimarie Bock is a senior at Dunedin High School and a stand out on the Girls Varsity Basketball team. Kimarie scored 44 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in 2 games last week, both victories against Eastlake and Tarpon Springs. She will be attending the University of West Florida in the fall on a basketball scholarship. She was nominated for Player of the Week by Coach Rob Odoms. Congrats Kimarie!

1/15/07 Week 16 Winner: George Filipovski Tarpon Springs
George Filipovski is a member of the Tarpon Springs Varsity Soccer team. He scored 6 goals in only 2 games. He also scored all 5 goals in the team's district win over Dunedin, as well as 1 goal in another district matchup against Pinellas Park. George has a total of 15 goals for the season. 1/29/07 Week 18 Winner: Dante Graham Dundedin High
Dante Graham is a senior at Dunedin High School and a member of the Varsity Wrestling Team. He improved his record to 19-3 by defeating four guys in his weight class to secure his second PCAC Tournament Championship in two years. Dante pinned his first two opponents in less than 2 minutes each. He earned a Major Decision, defeating his third opponent by the score of 10-1. In the finals, he beat his opponent by yet another Major Decision. Dante will be ending his high school wrestling career this year and hopes to receive a scholarship to continue to wrestle in college. He was nominated by Coach Marc Allison. Congratulations Dante!

2/5/07 Week 19 Winner: Gideon Levy Dunedin High
Gideon Levy is student athlete at Dunedin High School, where he recently earned his spot as a member of the Varsity Wrestling Team. Gideon was required to represent the Falcons as the Junior Varsity 189 pounder in a tri-meet against Indian Rocks and Northeast where he won both matches, registering 2 pins. The following day he represented the Varsity Falcons in the 3rd Annual Falcon Duals at the 189lb weight class and won 5 straight matches. He earned a total of 4 pins and a scoring of 30 team points. Gideon was selected by his peers as the Most Valuable Wrestler for the dual meet tournament and helped the Falcons with their first ever Falcons Dual Championship. He was nominated for Knology Cup Player of the Week by Coach Marc Allison. Way to go Gideon!

2/19/07 Week 21 Winner: Tory Stephens Boca Ciega
Tory Stephens is a student athlete at Boca Ciega High School. Tory averaged a total of 24 points per game during district play. She is the second leading scorer in Pinellas County and is ranked in the top 10 for assists. She is also considered one of the best defenders in the county. Tory was nominated for Knology Cup Player of the Week by Coach William White. Way to go Tory!

2/26/07 Week 22 Winner: Sara Nevins Pinellas Park
Sara Nevins is a freshman and starting pitcher for the Pinellas Park High School Lady Patriots. In her first game, she threw a no hitter, striking out 14 of the 16 batters she faced. The following day she struck out another 9 batters in a game against Countryside. In two games, she only allowed 2 hits, had a total of 23 strike outs and had no earned runs. She has helped bring the Patriots to a 2-1 start. Sara was nominated by Coach Shane DeMartino. Congrats Sara!

3/12/07 Week 24 Winner: Frances Barcelo Dixie Hollins
Frances Barcelo is a senior at Dixie Hollins high school and a great asset to the Girls Varsity Softball team. In a recent game against Osceola, Frances hit a triple, batting in the winning run in the bottom of the 7th inning to close off a victory for Dixie Hollins. Frances is a four year starter on the team. She has a 3.4 GPA and is considered a leader on and off the field. Congratulations Frances!

3/19/07 Week 25 Winner: Javier Ford Gibbs
Javier Ford is a student at Gibbs High School where he is a member of the boys Varsity Track Team. In the recent Steak & Shake Invitational, where over 40 teams participated, Javier placed 5th in Discus with 134' 1" and placed 7th in Shot Put with 42' 7". Also in a recent match up with rival Boca Ciega, he placed 1st in Shot Put with 44' 11" and 1st in Discus with 133' 1". Javier was nominated by Coach Anthony Givens. Way to go Javier!

3/26/07 Week 26 Winner: GiOnna DiSalvatore Countryside High School
GiOnna DiSalvatore is a senior shortstop and team captain for Countryside High High School where she has led her team to a 11-1 record thus far. In one week, she led the Cougars to three consecutive wins over St. Petersburg, East Lake and district rival Gaither. At shortstop, she was flawless. At the plate, she was an incredible 10 for 11, including 4 doubles, 2 triples and 4 RBI's in those 11 at bats. She is a tremendous player that leads by example. Gionna will be heading to UCLA this fall on a softball scholarship. She was nominated for player of the week by Coach Kaylyn Bayly. Congratulations GiOnna!

Krissy Metka is a Junior at Seminole High School and a member of the Girls Varsity Swim Team. At last week's meet, Krissy won the 200 free, the 100 breaststroke, and helped her relays win the 200 free and 200im to guarantee the win over Tarpon Springs High. 9/20/07 Week 2 Winner: Jeff Brinson Northeast High
Jeff Brinson is a Senior at Northeast High School and a running back on the varsity football team. Last week, Jeff ran for 317 yards and 5 touchdowns in a win against Dixie Hollins. He has over 700 yards and 11 touchdowns in the first two games of the season! Jeff was nominated by Coach Jay Austin. Way to go Jeff!

10/3/07 Week 3 Winner: Christian Homme Seminole High
Christian Homme is a memeber of the Boys Varsity Cross Country team at Seminole High School. After placing 2nd in the 2006 Florida State Championship, Christiam began his 2007 season in sterling fashion. In a seven team meet on September 10th, he not only placed first, but did so in a convincing manner; beating his nearest competitor by at least 200 meters. The meet was ran on the same course as last year's PCAC meet. Christian's time was also better than last year's Pinellas County Champion and the Pinellas County/St Pete Times Cross Country Runner of the Year. This was a phenomenal victory and a time worthy of an exceptional state ranking. Christian was nominated by Coach Bruce Calhoun. Way to go Christian!

Sara Rex is a Senior at East Lake High School. She is a very valuable member of the Varsity Volleyball team, where she serves as Captain. Jennifer Botsch is a Senior at Tarpon Springs High School and a member of the Varsity Diving Team. Jen is a transfer student from Michigan and has quickly made a name for herself as one of Pinellas County's top female divers. She placed 1st at the PCAC Conference meet and has also placed 1st in every dual meet this year. Jen's dive group placed 3rd at the Total Team Challenge. Although diving is her passion, Jen has also filled in for the 50 Free, 200 Medley Relay and 200 Free Relays. Jen hopes to use her skills to advance to the college dive arena after graduating this year. She was nominated by Coach Williams. Congratulations Jennifer!

Bernard Reedy is a tenth grade student athlete at Lakewood High School, where he is a memeber of the varsity football team. He recently had a football career high night, last Friday vs. Osceola High School. Bernard finished the game with 22 carries for 191 yards and 3 touchdowns. He also added over 100 yards in punt returns. Bernard played an instrumental part in the 35-18 victory over Osceola. Bernard was nominated by Coach Dixon. Congratulations Bernard!

Nick Buccina is a student at East Lake High School and a member of the Varsity Golf Team. After completing a great regular season, Nick finished fourth in the state finals. Katherine McMeekin is a student at East Lake High School and a member of the girls Varsity Cross Country team. Katherine was nominated by the St Pete Times as the Pinellas County Female Cross Country Athlete of the Year. She finished 19th in the state and led her East Lake team to the State Competition for the first time ever. 1/29/08 Week 14 Winner: Devonta Davis Dixie Hollins High
Devonta Davis is a senior at Dixie Hollins High School and a member of the Varsity Basketball team. Devonta recently scored 32 points (24 in the 4th quarter) in a game against Sarasota Riverview. He had four 3 pointers, five rebounds, and three steals in that game as well. The following night, in a game against Hialeah, Devonta scored 19 points. Devonta was nominated by coach Travis Hill. 1/29/08 Week 15 Winner: Gideon Levy Dunedin High
Gideon Levy is a junior at Dunedin High and a member of the Varsity Wrestling team. In the recent PCAC tournament, Gideon was expected to finish third, going in as the underdog in a match up against the second seeded wrestler in the semi-finals. Gideon won that match with a score of 3-1. He then went on to beat another wrestler that is ranked 10th in the state with a score of 10-6. Gideon not only shines on the mat, but in class as well. He has an overall GPA of 3.63 with many of his classes being AP or honor classes. Gideon hopes to play football and wrestle somewhere in the northeast after graduation. 2/26/08 Week 16 Winner: Antonio Talley Dunedin High
Antonio Talley is a student at Dunedin High School and a member of the Varsity Wrestling Team, where he has become a team player in an individual sport. Last year, Antonio was the starting 171 pound wrestler for Dunedin and qualified for the state tournament. This year, due to the amount of wrestlers in surrounding weights, he agreed to wrestle in any weight his coach asked him to. Antonio ended up wrestling at 189lb, 171lb, and finally agreed to cut to the 160lb for the post-season. Through the many weight class changes, Antonio remained 20-1 heading into the district tournament. He managed to make the 160lb and won an individual title. Antonio pinned his way to the finals and won his final bout with a score of 12-0. Antonio was nominated by Coach Marc Allison who states, "Antonio is not very vocal, but the the kind of leader every coach respects; he leads by example!" Congrats Antonio!

4/30/08 Week 19 Winner: Michael Morrison Lakewood High
Michael Morrison is a member of the boys Varsity Basketball team at Lakewood High School. Michael led the Spartan's to the state championship game with his combination of points and rebounds. He averaged 15 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 blocks per game. Michael was a dominate leader on the court and was recently voted "Boys Basketball Player of the Year". Congrats Michael!

Kyle is a member of the wrestling team at Countryside High School. Kyle recently won the State Championship by defeating the same wrestler that defeated him last year in the finals. This makes Kyle the only State Champion in Pinellas County. Congratulations Kyle!

4/30/08 Week 17 Winner: Alex Dinielli East Lake
Alex Dinielli is a senior at East Lake High school and a member of the varsity wrestling team. This was Alex's first year as a starter. This season, he was a champion in the East Lake Invitational in December out of 22 entries. Alex also won the Pinellas Conference Tournament and the District Tournament. Alex then became the 3A Region Champ in February. He was nominated by Coach Pete Collins. Way to go Alex!
